William (Will) Breland graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2020 with a Certificate in Public Interest Law. During law school, he served as Articles Editor for the Journal of the Legal Profession, a student mediator with the University of Alabama Mediation Clinic, and a law clerk in the University of Alabama Office of General Counsel.
As a 2020-2021 Borchard Fellow, Will plans to focus on providing legal services to older adults with heirship property issues in Alabama’s historic Black Belt. He will conduct educational sessions with local residents about the importance of estate planning, provide direct services through will writing workshops, and develop a curriculum on heirs property to be delivered to elder law clinics in law schools throughout Alabama.
Prior to law school, Will graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a Distinction in Leadership Studies. In college, he served as President of the Student Government Association. After his undergraduate studies, he served as a middle school science teacher in Brooklyn, New York as a part of the Teach for America program, and a park ranger with the National Park Service at a variety of National Park units throughout the Unites States.
