Amanda Insalaco graduated from DePaul University College of Law in May 2019 with a Certificate in Public Interest Law. During law school, she served as Articles Editor on the DePaul Journal for Social Justice, published an article regarding housing discrimination against Housing Choice Voucher Program participants, and worked at a variety of legal aid organizations including Illinois Legal Aid Online, LAF, and the Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL).
As 2019-2020 Borchard Fellow, Amanda will return to CDEL to implement the Housing Preservation Project which aims to preserve homeownership rights for Cook County seniors so that they can afford to age in place and ensures they have succession plans in place to pass on their property interest. Amanda will provide community presentations to cost-burdened seniors regarding property tax exemptions, succession plans, and emergency repair funds. She will also train pro bono attorneys to provide legal services to senior homeowners in a workshop setting. Finally, Amanda will carry a full caseload and provide direct representation in matters such as quiet title actions and foreclosure, eviction, and building code violation defense.
Prior to law school, Amanda earned a Bachelor of Arts in Nonprofit and NGO Studies at Northern Illinois University and completed a year-long term of service with Illinois JusticeCorps, an AmeriCorps program administered by the Illinois Bar Foundation, during which she provided legal information to pro se litigants in rural Knox County, Illinois.
