Julie Gilgoff

2017-2018

Julie Gilgoff is a recent law school graduate from CUNY School of Law, a public interest law school in Queens, New York. She was the 2016 recipient of the New York State Bar Association's Joel Asarch scholarship in Elder Law and Special Needs for her work assisting the elderly and disabled enroll in New York City's rent increase exemption program. As a 3L, she was a student attorney in CUNY's Community & Economic Development clinic where she assisted newly forming cooperatives. That experience, together with a land use class and independent study about Community Land Trusts, inspired her Borchard Fellowship project, which will focus on senior cooperative housing in the Bay Area.

Julie will be partnering with the Sustainable Economies Law Center, and the Bay Area Community Land Trust to assist newly forming senior cooperatives and help get supportive legislation passed. As a published author, Gilgoff also looks forward to writing about the need for alternative models of senior housing.
