Megan Jack Yip developed and launched a program to increase Legal Aid of Marin's services in California to provide additional support, advice and assistance to older adults asserting and defending their rights in small claims court. In addition to providing these specialized direct legal services, Megan also provided educational presentations to seniors on topics including accessing justice through small claims court, how to prevent elder financial abuse, consumer protection issues and low-income estate planning.
During her fellowship year, Megan helped in expanding Marin County's medical legal partnership to the most rural part of Marin County, California, opening office hours in Pt. Reyes Station and Bolinas. Her work in West Marin included investigating and, with the help of co-counsel, filing a consumer class action law suit in Superior Court against a propane company that was wrongly charging seniors and others in rural West Marin County for propane which was their main source of heat and cooking fuel.
