2010-2011

Stella Kang received her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall) in May 2010. She received her undergraduate degree in Russian Literature from Smith College. Prior to law school, Stella was a Fulbright Fellow with the Irkutsk Crisis Center in Russia, where she helped to develop the Center's domestic violence program. Additionally, Stella volunteered as a multilingual advocate for the Asian Women's Shelter in San Francisco. During law school, Stella participated in the Domestic Violence Practicum and focused on domestic violence, immigration, and civil rights law. As a law student, Stella clerked for the East Bay Community Law Center, the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, and Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, where she will be carrying out her fellowship project.

During her fellowship year, Stella will be working toward strengthening the provision of legal and social services for Asian and Pacific Islander seniors facing elder abuse in the San Francisco Bay Area. She will be working with community-based organizations, minority legal associations, and local law enforcement to increase access to services, create a pro bono network for civil litigation, and expand API Legal Outreach's services to include alternative dispute resolution.
