Rachel Frazier will spend her 2010-2011 Borchard Fellowship year advocating for low-income seniors at the National Senior Citizens' Law Center (NSCLC) and the Whitman-Walker Clinic (WWC) in Washington, DC. Ms. Frazier brings with her experience with public benefits and health insurance, having worked as a Health Resource Advocate before law school and built on her knowledge with law school internships involving Medicaid and Social Security. Last summer, she worked as an AARP Herbert Semmel Elder Law Fellow advocating for elderly Medicaid beneficiaries.
At NSCLC, a non-profit organization dedicated to vulnerable elderly and disabled persons, Ms. Frazier will engage in national advocacy promoting due process for Supplemental Security Income ("SSI") beneficiaries. She will network with legal advocates from around the country to collect data about the SSI non-disability appeals process, and will use that data to engage in advocacy to improve the appeals process. At Whitman-Walker Clinic, a community health center serving greater Washington’s diverse urban community with a special expertise in LGBT and HIV care, she will join the Clinic's Legal Services Program to provide direct representation of older SSI beneficiaries.
Ms. Frazier attained her B.A. in Psychology from Whitworth University. In May 2010, she received her J.D. and Masters in Public Health from Harvard, where she was a Zuckerman Fellow.
