Joanne Wetzler

2004-2005

Joanne Wetzler is a graduate of the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah. She is admitted to the Utah State Bar.

In 2002, Joanne was the Borchard Fellow for the Senior Lawyer Volunteer Project at Utah Legal Services. Throughout law school, she participated in the Health Law and Disability Law clinical programs.

Joanne has worked at the Disability Law Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a member of the Institutions Team since September, 2003. As a member of that team, she served as a legal advocate for inmates with disabilities at the Utah State Prison. Her experience as a Registered Nurse for nearly twenty years provided a solid foundation for assisting this population in accessing appropriate medical and mental health treatment at the Utah State Prison. During that time, Joanne received the Steven Magleby Law Student Fellowship Award for recognition of her advocacy work for individuals with disabilities.

As a current Borchard fellow, Joanne will create a consumer guide for residents in Utah’s Assisted Living Centers. She will be an active member of the Utah Bar’s Needs of Elderly Committee, and a volunteer Long Term Care Ombudsman, advocating for residents in long term care facilities.
