Fellows Gather in California

Published in Center News

Six former and current Borchard fellows in California met in Oakland this month and shared a meal and vibrant discussion of their Borchard projects, current work, and goals for the future. Center Co-Director Ned Spurgeon and his wife Carol graciously hosted the event, which convened in a well-appointed restaurant in the heart of downtown. Topics ranged from access to low-income housing, preserving mobile home tenancy, and economic security for low income seniors, particularly in Santa Clara County, to estate planning in the digital age,  investigating abuse and neglect of seniors and people with disabilities, and innovative trainings through the former fellows grant program. The fellows hope to continue this tradition, informally begun when they had the opportunity in 2014 to join Ned at the Justice in Aging event, where he won JIA's first Impact Award.

The fellows included current fellow Krista Granen, and former fellows Stella Kang, Rachel Mehlsak, Melissa Morris, Megan Yip, and Elizabeth Zirker, seen here with Ned and Carol Spurgeon.
